Identities of nine individuals misused in RM24.8mil Kesedar CBT case, says Zahid

PUTRAJAYA: The individual involved in a recent criminal breach (CBT) of trust case misused nine other individual's identification to embezzle almost RM25mil, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Rural and Regional Development Minister said the assistant accountant’s act had allegedly deprived settlers under the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) of possible opportunities.

“Nine individuals had their identifications misused by the individual to embezzle Kesedar’s almost RM25mil over a course of time.

“This was a cunning act done by the assistant accountant,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said he will not compromise in the case and has instructed the ministry’s secretary-general to take action against the individual.

“The taxpayers’ money that should have been used for the settlers was instead used by the individual for his own benefit,” he told reporters after launching the Anti-Sexual Harassment Advocacy Programme Roadshow here on Monday (May 29).

On Saturday (May 27), Kelantan police arrested a 37-year-old suspect after receiving a report over an alleged misappropriation of RM24.8mil since 2016.

"Police received a report related to the CBT committed by the civil servant of a government agency over the loss of government funds managed by the finance division of the agency from the trust fund and development fund.

"A preliminary investigation found that this incident of (CBT) was committed by the suspect from 2016 to May 2023,” Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said in a statement.
